Manta, Equador

Well, we visited Manta, Equador yesterday. When we arrived, our balcony was overlooking the pier and on the other side were some fishing vessels. We got to see tons of tuna which were frozen in the hold of a ship loaded into nets and raised out of the ship and into trucks for shipment to the processing plant. It was actually pretty interesting to watch.

It was warm and overcast, which was pretty good for walking around. We took a shuttle from the ship to town. There we browsed through a bunch of craft tables, then we walked around Manta. We found the beach which was a popular spot since it is a holiday weekend in South America. We had a soda at Alcatraz (a food and beverage stand). They supposedly have wonderful seafood but we were warned about the gastric consequences of eating anything from street vendors in South America, so we stuck with the soda.

We walked around some more, then returned to the ship, where we watched some more of the unloading of tuna, then enjoyed a lovely swim in the pool. The weather has been very overcast the whole trip but at least it hasn't rained. Tomorrow we are scheduled for a 9 hour excursion in Costa Rica, so naturally the forecast is calling for rain all day. Hopefully we can do most of the activities on the excursion anyway.
