Lima, Peru

We arrived in Lima and were confronted with the health department and a slew of photographers and tv cameras.
We were treated, as the captain stated, as a plague ship, and the health department insisted on inspecting
the ship before it could even dock.

After the inspection, the crew conducted a press conference on the dock below our balcony.
You can see photos taken of this group below. After we were finally cleared to leave the ship, we took the shuttle for the
45 minute ride from Callao to Lima. The road to Lima was lined with some pretty horrendous housing.

We learned that most of the
top-level homes (they are stacked 2 or 3 high) had no water, sewer, or electricity. The closer we got
to Lima, the better the housing and neighborhoods, and most of the parts of Lima we saw were like any other
large city. (Lima is the 18th largest city in the world). We enjoyed walking around seeing the sites before catching
the shuttle back to the ship. Again, our day's journey reminded us how lucky we are to be living in the USA.
