Dear Family & Friends,

Greetings from Haymarket, Virginia! We hope you are all well and entrenched in the spirit of the Christmas season.

Although we have discontinued our family newsletter because the activities of our family have become so far spread and varied that we can no longer keep up with everything and everybody, we wanted to fill you in a little on our year. Also, anything you see in red means we have a corresponding photo album on our family website (link at the end of this letter).

In January we went with the family skiing, snowboarding, and swimming at Massanutten. We had a wonderful time, and it was fun seeing the kids get so into skiing, especially Audrey, since it was her first time.
In May, Christopher had his First Holy Communion, followed by a family party. Christopher studied for two years for this important event.

In June, David and Dawn took a three-week, 7,000 mile road trip across much of America, including several national parks. Stops included the Air Force Museum in Ohio, the Stern Pinball Factory in Chicago, Badlands, Devil’s Tower, Deadwood, Little Big Horn, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Sturgis, Yellowstone National Park, Buffalo, Wyoming, the Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole, Salt Lake City, Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley, 4 Corners, Oklahoma City, Arkansas, and Missouri, where we visited with family.

Jim and Sonya and the kids took several vacations, including a family reunion in Florida and a week at the Outer Banks. From the pictures, it looks like they had a great time, even though they had to vacate OBX a couple of days early due to Hurricane Irene.

We had one final party at the lake in August – the lake house finally sold in October. We have made a tribute album to our four years at the lake. We were sorry to see it go, but its sale opened the way for David to retire whenever he feels the need. We will indeed miss our long lazy summer days at Lake of the Woods.

We spent many weekend mornings traveling to Bumpass to see grandkids Lily and Whit in all their sports activities – soccer, basketball, and football. Both are great athletes.

We recently hosted the family for an early Thanksgiving and then Cookie Bake, our 14th year. As usual, it was great fun. We also got the news that nephew Lance became engaged, and we are thrilled – his fiancé Jennifer is a gem, and she brings along her son Tyson as a bonus.

John is now managing an auto parts store. Jen changed jobs, leaving Verizon to work for another IT firm. Jim continues his supervisory job at SAIC in the IT group.

We wish everybody a most excellent Christmas and Hanukkah and a blessed, happy, and prosperous new year.

Love,
David and Dawn
